Race

In the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, race is shown in various ways. Usually in a TV show, it is mainly based on a white family, whereas in this show it's based on a rich, high end black family, who take in their nephew, so it doesn't show the stereotypical African American family. They are shown to be rich, and powerful and accepted by many people. Therefore it shows them in a positive way rather than the usual negative way.
The producer takes a non stereotypical view of an African American family living in Bel Air, and changes it so that it seems to be the stereotypical view, it also raises controversial issues. Therefore, the producer is giving a positive view of the African American family.
