How I Met Your Mother - Audience Task

1. The intended audience for this programme are people who are family orientated and between the ages of 15 - 70, this is because How I Met Your Mother are mainly families, or young people because it's a comedy show which is based around both couples and people who are single, so this will relate to some of the people watching the show who have been or are going through those times in their lives. It is shown pretty much all the time, especially during the evenings, therefore it's not especially graphic or rude, otherwise it would be shown after the watershed, however because it's shown during the peak times on the TV, it can be viewed by numerous people. However it's intended for a specific age group as some of the jokes made in the TV series, younger viewers may not understand, therefore they wouldn't watch it.

2. The programme meets personal identity, as a lot of the things that happen in the show are things that happen to people in real life, therefore by them watching it, they can relate to whats happening and this will intrigue them to watch on to find out how that person deals with the problem or the situation that they are in. It's also entertainment as they use quite a lot of comedy in the programme, therefore this gives them a release. Watching also gives audiences information, as it can give them advice about what to do when themselves are in the same situation as the characters they are watching.
3. With this show, it takes events that have taken place over a series of days and cut it down into one half an hour show, that show only the important parts of the TV series, such as things that are related to the storyline, rather than things that have no meaning. The show is also from one characters point of view, but it also has insights into other characters lives as well.
